Cedros Bite Continues Hot!

by Melanie Lamaga

Our latest big group of anglers fishing with Cedros Outdoor Adventures all reported tons of fish, often catching limits.

Yellowtail are in mostly in the 20-30 lb. range, with at least one weighing in at 50 lbs.! In the mornings they are abundant around the point past the airport, caught using yo-yos and live bait. Anglers also report lots of action past the kelp paddies off Punta Prieta, and on slow troll off the salt plant. Yellows were also caught with sliding egg sinkers when it got windy, and colt snipers to get down into the kelp.

Calicos in the 2-6 lbs range are also abundant right now. Anglers report a welcome return of the kelp paddies which have been absent for the past couple of years. The paddies off Punta Prieta and St. Augustin are teeming with not only calicos, but sheephead, yellowtail and other species. The calico action yesterday off Punta Norte was reported by one angler as “insane.” Another angler said that they “had a blast” fishing calico this morning around the corner from St. Augustine using plastics, deep drop mega baits and snipers.
